I currently work as a researcher at a think tank based in Johannesburg (the New South Institute), but out of office hours I occasionally do consultancy work on topics that are of interest to me and to which I can make relevant contributions.

The work of a freelance researcher can take many forms. These are some examples of jobs I have undertaken in the past:

• Preparing literature reviews, including sources external to the peer review system (such as policy briefs)

• Conducting critical reviews of documents, indicating the absence of relevant references or the misuse of problematic ones

• Research, organize and analyze benchmarks

• Describe ecosystems by identifying relevant stakeholders (grant givers, grant takers, experts, thought leaders) and their relationships

• Map the landscape of opinions on a given topic

• Identify people (such as academics, entrepreneurs, politicians or officials) to whom it would make sense to hold conversations on certain topics, and write briefs about them

• Find un-Googleable things

In recent years, I have collaborated with Brazilian civil society groups fairly frequently, but I wish to expand the scope of my work. I have done research for organisations such as the Lemann Foundation, Vetor Brasil, Instituto Gesto, Instituto Igarapé, Mahin Antiracist Consultancy, Instituto Jataí and Comunitas, as well as multilateral agencies such as the Inter-American Development Bank.
